Wal-’ādiyāti ḍabḥā | By the racing horses panting hard, |
Fal-mūriyāti qadhā | Striking sparks of fire, |
Fal-mughīrāti ṣubḥā | Charging into the fray at dawn, |
Fa’atharna bihī naq’ā | Stirring up clouds of dust, |
Fawasatna bihī jam’ā | Penetrating deep into enemy lines, |
Innal-insāna lirabbihī lakanūd | Surely man is ungrateful to his Lord. |
Wa-innahū ‘alā dhālika lashaheed | And he himself is a witness to that, |
Wa-innahū lihubbil-khairi lashadeed | And he is, indeed, in love with wealth intensely. |
Afalā ya’lamu itha bu’thira mā fil-qubūr | Does he not know, when the contents of the graves are scattered, |
Wahus’sila mā fis’sudūr | And the secrets of the hearts are laid bare, |
Inna rabbahum bihim yawma-idhil-lakhabeer | Surely their Lord is aware of them on that Day. |
Surah Al-Adiyat illustrates the powerful imagery of racing horses in battle and shows human ingratitude and attachment to wealth, warning of the Day of Judgment when all secrets will be revealed.
