Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Raheem | In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. |
Wal-layli iza yaghsha | By the night as it envelops, |
Wan-nahari iza tajalla | And [by] the day as it appears, |
Wa ma khalaqadh-dhakara wal-untha | And [by] He who created the male and female, |
Inna sa’yakum lashatta | Indeed, your efforts are diverse. |
Fa amma man a‘ta wat-taqa | As for he who gives and fears Allah, |
Wa saddaqa bil-husna | And believes in the best [reward], |
Fa sanu yassiruhu lil-yusra | We will ease him toward ease. |
Wa amma man bakhila wastaghna | But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need, |
Wa kadhdhaba bil-husna | And denies the best [reward], |
Fa sanu yassiruhu lil-‘usra | We will ease him toward difficulty. |
Wa ma yughni ‘anhu maluhu iza taradda | And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? |
Inna ‘alayna lal-huda | Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. |
Wa inna lana lal-akhirata wal-ula | And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. |
Fa andhartukum naran talazza | So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. |
La yaslaha illa al-ashqa | None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one, |
Alladhi kadhdhaba wa tawalla | Who had denied and turned away. |
Wa sayujannabuha al-atqa | But the righteous one will be spared from it, |
Alladhi yu’ti malahu yatazakka | He who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself, |
Wa ma li-ahadin ‘indahu min ni‘matin tujza | And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded, |
Illa ibtigha’a wajhi rabbihil a’la | But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. |
Wa lasawfa yarda | And he is going to be satisfied. |
