Benefits of Reciting Dua for Sick Person

1. Healing and Comfort from Allah:

These duas ask Allah to heal the sick person and give them comfort. The Prophet (PBUH) taught us that only Allah can give true healing.

Example: The dua Allahumma Rabban-naas adhhibil-ba’s washfi Antash-Shaafi laa shifaa’a illaa shifaa’uk…” directly asks Allah for healing, recognizing that all cures come from Him.

2. Strengthening Faith (Iman):

Saying these duas shows belief in Allah’s power over everything, including illness and recovery.

It helps strengthen the faith of both the sick person and the one reciting the dua, reminding them that only Allah can give true healing.

3. Protection from Harm:

Some duas, like “Bismillāh arqeek min kulli shay’in yu’theek…,” protect the sick person from further harm, such as envy or the evil eye.

They ask for protection from things that can make the illness worse.

4. Encouraging Positivity and Hope:

Duas like “La Ba’sa, Tahoorun, In Sha Allah” give hope to the sick person, helping them see illness as a way to purify themselves.

This positive outlook helps the person cope better with their condition and trust in Allah.

5. Following the Sunnah and Gaining Reward:

Reciting these duas follows the Sunnah (tradition) of the Prophet (PBUH), which brings reward from Allah.

The Prophet (PBUH) taught that saying specific duas can lead to recovery if Allah wills.

6. Building Care and Empathy:

Visiting the sick and making dua shows care and concern for the sick person. It makes them feel supported and loved.

Example: Saying the dua “Allahummashfi fulan(an)” for the sick person by name shows personal care and love.

7. Encouragement to Return to Worship:

Some duas, like “Allahummashfi ‘abdaka yanka’u laka ‘aduwwan aw yamshi laka ilas-salah,” ask Allah to heal the person so they can return to worship and doing good deeds.

This reminds the sick person to look forward to resuming prayer and other good acts once they recover.

8. Blessings for the Visitor:

Visiting the sick and making dua brings blessings to the visitor too. The Prophet (PBUH) said that visiting the sick brings great rewards, such as angels praying for the visitor and sins being forgiven.

Conclusion:

Reciting these duas brings healing, protection, and hope to the sick while also following the Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH). These duas strengthen faith, build care and empathy, and remind the sick of their role in the community. Both the sick person and the one reciting the duas gain blessings and reward from Allah.
