Hadith about Dua after waking up in English

Narrated by Hudhaifa: Whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) intended to go to bed, he would say:

“Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya”
(With Your name, O Allah, I die and I live).

And when he woke up, he would say:

(All praises are for Allah, Who has given us life after He caused us to die (sleep), and to Him is the return).

Du’a for the morning

The following du’a should be recited to remember Allah in the morning:

Transliteration: As-bah-na wa as-ba-hal mulku lil-lahi rabbil-aa-la-mîn. Allahumma innî as’aluka khay-ra ha-zal-yawm, fat-ha-hu wa nas-ra-hu, wa nu-ra-hu wa bara-ka-ta-hu wa hu-da-hu, Wa aa-u-zu bika min shar-ri ma fîhi, wa shar-ri ma ba’-dah.

Translation: We have entered upon the morning, and the whole kingdom of Allah, too, has entered upon morning. Praise is due to Allah. There is none who has the right to be worshiped but Allah, the One who has no partner with Him. His is the Sovereignty and to Him is praise due and He is Potent over everything. My Lord, I beg of Thee good that lies in this day and good that follows it and I seek refuge in Thee from the evil that lies in this day and from the evil of that which follows it. My Lord, I seek refuge in Thee from sloth, from the evil of vanity. My Lord, I seek refuge in Thee from torment of the Hell-Fire and from torment of the grave.

Du’a for forgiveness and refuge from evil (The best dua for forgiveness)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) is reported as saying that the following supplication is a way for a believer to seek forgiveness from Allah.

He added:If somebody recites it during the day with firm faith in it, and dies on the same day before the evening, he will be from the people of Paradise; and if somebody recites it at night with firm faith in it, and dies before the morning, he will be from the people of Paradise.

[Hadith | Bukhari]

Sayidul Istighfar is a special supplication for seeking forgiveness from Allah. It is often referred to as the “Chief of Istighfar” (the best way to ask for forgiveness). Therefore, you should recite this du’a upon waking up. Here is the Arabic text along with its transliteration and translation:

Translation: “O Allah, You are my Lord, there is no deity except You. You created me and I am Your servant, and I am upon Your covenant and promise as much as I am able. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I have done. I acknowledge Your favor upon me and I acknowledge my sin, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sin except You.”
