Duas for Pain Relief (Including Stomach & Period Pain)

When you feel pain in your body, you can follow these steps and recite the following authentic duas from the Sunnah:

Dua #1:

Arabic:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ وَقُدْرَتِهِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا أَجِدُ وَأُحَاذِرُ

Transliteration:

Bismillah, A’udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru

Meaning:

In the name of Allah. I seek refuge with Allah and with His Power from the evil that I find and that I fear.

Hadith Reference:

Uthman b. Abu al-’As Al-Thaqafi reported that he made a complaint of pain to the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). The Prophet (ﷺ) advised him to place his hand on the painful area and say “Bismillah” three times, followed by this dua seven times.

(Sahih Muslim 2202)

Dua #2:

Arabic:

اللَّهُمَّ ربَّ النَّاسِ ، أَذْهِب الْبَأسَ ، واشْفِ ، أَنْتَ الشَّافي لا شِفَاءَ إِلاَّ شِفَاؤُكَ ، شِفاءً لا يُغَادِرُ سقَماً

Transliteration:

Allahumma Rabban-naas adhhibil-ba’s washfi Antash-Shaafi laa shifaa’a illaa shifaa’uk shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqamaa.

Meaning:

O Allah, the Lord of mankind, remove the difficulty and bring healing, for You are the Healer. No healing is of any avail but Yours; a healing that will leave behind no illness.

Hadith Reference:

Narrated `Aisha: The Prophet (ﷺ) used this dua to treat some of his wives who were ill.

(Sahih al-Bukhari 5743)

Dua #3:

Arabic:

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّومُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيثُ، أَصْلِحْ لِي شَأْنِي كُلَّهُ وَلَا تَكِلْنِي إِلَى نَفْسِي طَرْفَةَ عَيْنٍ

Transliteration:

Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyumu bi rahmatika astaghith, aslih li sha-ni kullah wa la takilni ila nafsi tarfata ‘ayn.

Meaning:

O The Ever-Living, The Sustainer, I seek assistance through Your mercy, rectify all of my affairs, and do not leave me to my own self for even a blink of an eye.

Hadith Reference:

The Prophet (ﷺ) would say this dua when distressed.

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3524)

When to Recite:

When you feel pain in your body (such as stomach pain or period pain), place your hand on the painful area.

• Say “Bismillah” three times.

• Then recite this dua seven times:

A’udhu billahi wa qudratihi min sharri ma ajidu wa uhadhiru

(I seek refuge in Allah and His Power from the evil of what I feel and what I fear.)

Duas for Pain Relief Using Quran as Cure

1. Recite Surah Al-Fatihah

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to recite it for healing purposes.

(Sahih al-Bukhari 2276, Sahih Muslim 2201)

2. Recite the last three Surahs: Surah Al-Ikhlas (112), Surah Al-Falaq (113), and Surah An-Naas (114).

A’ishah (رضى الله عنها) mentioned that the Prophet (ﷺ) would use these surahs for protection and healing.

(Sahih al-Bukhari 5735)

3. Ayat Al-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255)

It is known for its protective and healing power.

4. Surah Al-Baqarah

Reciting any part of the Quran brings relief, as the entire Quran is a source of healing.

Additional Tips in Islam for Pain Relief:

1. Patience (Sabr):

Allah says, “And be patient; indeed, Allah is with the patient.” (Quran 2:153)

2. Prayer (Salah):

If you are in a state of purity, prayer can bring comfort and relief.

3. Gratitude (Shukr):

Show gratitude, even during hardship. Allah says, “If you are grateful, I will surely increase you in favor.” (Quran 14:7)

4. Seek Medical Help:

Islam encourages seeking treatment. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “For every disease, Allah has created a cure.” (Bukhari)
