Hadith

In Sunan Ibn Majah 1906, it’s narrated by Aqil bin Abu Talib that when he married a woman from Banu Jusham, people congratulated him, saying,

“May you live in harmony and have many sons.” But Aqil advised them, “Do not say that. Instead, say what the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُم وَبَارِكْ عَلَيْهِمْ

‘Allahumma barik lahum wa barik `alaihim’

(O Allah, bless them and bestow blessings upon them).”

This shows the importance of using this phrase in moments of joy or admiration, following the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
