Bismillahi Tawakkaltu Alallah Meaning in English
The dua “Bismillahi Tawakkaltu Alallah” should be recited before leaving the house. According to the hadith, reciting this dua invokes Allah’s guidance, protection, and defense from harm, and it keeps devils away. It is best to recite it as a habit every time you step out of your home, regardless of the purpose of your departure, whether for work, errands, or travel.
The Prophet (ﷺ) taught a dua to recite when leaving the home, found in the hadith collections of Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi, and An-Nasa’i. The dua is:
Arabic:
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللَّهِ لاَ حَوْلَ وَلاَ قُوَّةَ إِلاَّ بِاللَّهِ
Transliteration:
Bismillahi tawakkaltu alallahi la hawla wala quwwata illa billah

Hadith about Bismillahi Tawakkaltu Alallah
This dua is recited before leaving home, seeking Allah’s protection and guidance.
Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Whoever says (upon leaving his house): ‘Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah [I begin with the Name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no altering of conditions but by the Power of Allah],’ it will be said to him: ‘You are guided, defended and protected.’ The devil will go far away from him”.
