Bismillahillazi La Yadurru Ma’asmihi Full Dua Meaning in English

The phrase “Bismillahillazi la yadurru” translates to:

“In the Name of Allah, with Whose Name nothing can cause harm on the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.”

This dua serves as a fortress of protection, calling upon Allah to shield us from any harm, whether physical or spiritual, that could come our way during the day or night.

The full dua in Arabic is as follows:

بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِيْ لا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الأَرْضِ وَلا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيْعُ الْعَلِيْمُ


Transliteration

Bismillahilladhi la yadurru ma’a ismihi shay’un fi’l-ard wa la fi’l-sama’ wa huwa al-samee’ ul-‘aleem.

Reciting this three times in the morning and evening protects from unexpected calamities.


Bismillahillazi La Yadurru Ma’asmihi Hadith

This dua holds significant value in Islamic tradition, as narrated in a hadith:

  • Narrated by Uthman ibn Affan:
    Aban ibn Uthman stated: I heard Uthman ibn Affan (his father) say:
    “The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘If anyone says three times: “In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing in the Earth or in Heaven can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,” they will not suffer any sudden affliction till the next morning. And if anyone says this in the morning, they will not suffer sudden affliction till the evening.'”

    (Abu Dawood 5088)

It is also narrated by At-Tirmidhi (no. 3388) that saying this three times in the morning and evening offers complete protection.

The hadith scholars such as Ibn al-Qayyim in Zaad al-Ma‘aad (2/338) and Sheikh Al-Albani in Saheeh Abi Dawood & Sahih Al-Jami (6426) have classified this hadith as authentic (saheeh).
