This special prayer, taught by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), is performed when facing important decisions or dilemmas. By turning to Allah with sincere devotion, believers ask for His wisdom to make choices that are best for their faith and worldly affairs.

رَبِّ اِنِّىۡ لِمَاۤ اَنۡزَلۡتَ اِلَىَّ مِنۡ خَيۡرٍ فَقِيۡرٌ“My Lord! Truly, I am in need of whatever good that You bestow on me!”This dua is often recited to express humility and neediness for Allah’s mercy and blessings.
اَللّٰهُمَّ أَحْسِنْ عَاقِبَتَنَا فِي الْأُمُوْرِ كُلِّهَا ، وَأَجِرْنَا مِنْ خِزْيِ الدُّنْيَا وَعَذَابِ الْآخِرَةِ“O Allah, grant us the best outcome in all of our affairs, and protect us from the humiliation of this world and the punishment of the hereafter.”This dua is a plea for overall well-being and success in both this life and the hereafter.
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْتَخِيْرُكَ بِعِلْمِكَ ، وَأَسْتَقْدِرُكَ بِقُدْرَتِكَ ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ الْعَظِيْمِ …“O Allah, I ask you for the best through Your knowledge, I seek strength through Your power, and I ask You from Your majestic benevolence…”This dua is known as the “Dua of Istikhara,” a prayer for guidance when making decisions.
اَللّٰهُمَّ اهْدِنِيْ وَسَدِّدْنِيْ ، اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَىٰ وَالسَّدَادَ“O Allah, guide me and grant me firmness. O Allah, I beg You for guidance and firmness (on the straight path).”A request for divine guidance and steadfastness on the right path.
اَللّٰهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْأَلُكَ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ كُلِّهِ عَاجِلِهِ وَآجِلِهِ ، مَا عَلِمْتُ مِنْهُ وَمَا لَمْ أَعْلَمْ …“O Allah, I beg You for all good: immediate and delayed, what I know and what I do not know…”A comprehensive prayer seeking all forms of goodness and protection from all evils.
اَللّٰهُمَّ رَبَّ جَبْرَائِيْلَ ، وَمِيْكَائِيْلَ ، وإِسْرَافِيْلَ …“O Allah, Lord of Jibrā’īl, Mīkā’īl, and Isrāfīl, Creator of the heavens and earth…”A supplication for guidance and understanding in matters of truth and difference.

Salat al-Istikhara – for Guidance in Times of Confusion

What is Salat al-Istikharah? Salat al-Istikharah is a special prayer in Islam that seeks guidance from Allah when making important life decisions. It consists of two non-obligatory rak’ahs followed by a specific supplication (du’a).

Steps to Perform Salat al-Istikharah:

  1. Ablution (Wu’du): Start with a state of purity.
  2. Niyah (Intention): Intend to perform Istikharah.
  3. Takbir: Begin with “Allahu Akbar” and pray two rak’ahs.
  4. Du’a: After finishing, recite the Istikhara du’a in Arabic and its translation to understand your request from Allah.
  5. Personal Du’a: Feel free to make additional supplications in your language regarding your specific situation.
  6. Consistent Prayer: Continue praying regularly until you receive guidance.

Du’a for Istikhara: The du’a includes asking Allah for guidance based on His knowledge and wisdom, requesting that He facilitate what is good for you, and keep away what is harmful.

Best Time to Perform Istikhara: Salat al-Istikharah can be performed at any time of day except during certain forbidden times:

  • After Asr until sunset.
  • After Fajr until sunrise.
  • Approximately five minutes before Duhr when the sun is at its peak
