اَللّٰهُمَّ صَيِّبًا نَافِعًا

Allahumma sayyiban nafi‘an

O Allah, (make it) a beneficial downpour.

(Bukhari).

سُبْـحانَ الّذي يُسَبِّـحُ الـرَّعْدُ بِحَمْـدِهِ، وَالملائِكـةُ مِنْ خيـفَته

Subḥāna ‘l-ladhī yusabbiḥur-ra`du bi ḥamdihi  wa ‘l-malā’ikatu min khīfatih. 

Glory is to Him Whom thunder and angels glorify due to fear of Him.

Hisn al-Muslim 168

اَللّٰهُمَّ لَا تَقْتُلْنَا بِغَضَبِكَ وَلَا تُهْلِكْنَا بِعَذَابِكَ وَعَافِنَا قَبْلَ ذٰلِكَ

Allahumma la taqtulna bi ghadhabik wa la tuhlikna bi ‘adhabik, wa ‘afina qabla dhalik

Translation: O Allah! do not kill us through your anger, and do not destroy us through your punishment. Save us before your punishment. (Tirmidhi)

Sahih al-Tirmizi (3450) Imam al-Tirmizi group this hadith as gharib and it is not known except for this narration only

مُطِرْنا بِفَضْلِ اللهِ وَرَحْمَتِه

Mutirna bi fadlillahi wa rahmatihi

Translation: It has rained through the grace and mercy of Allah.

We have been given rain by the grace and mercy of Allah. 

Hisn al-Muslim 173

Rainfall is a mercy which Allah has

created therefore use it as a blessing.

1. When it starts to rain:

   – Say, “اللهم صيباً نافعاً” (“O Allah, let it be beneficial rain”).

2. While it’s raining:

   – Make du’a, as it’s a time when prayers are answered.

3. After the rain

   – Say, “مُطرنا بفضل الله ورحمته”

(“We have been given rain by the grace and mercy of Allah”).

Narrated Aisha:

Whenever Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saw the rain, he used to say, “O Allah! Let it be a strong fruitful rain.”

Sahih al-Bukhari 1032

Whenever Abdullah bin Zubair (RA) would hear thunder, he would abandon all conversation and say this supplication. See Al-Muwatta’ 2/992. It was graded authentic by Al-Albani as a statement of Abdullah bin Zubayr only.

Surah An-Nahl – 65
