Dua khatam Quran in English PDF with Transliteration

Is Reciting Dua After Finishing the Quran a Sunnah? When you finish reading the Quran, there isn’t a specific dua (Dua Khatam Quran) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) specifically recommended or made obligatory. However, making general supplications is perfectly acceptable. You may ask Allah for forgiveness, blessings, and success in this life and the Hereafter.

This is because making Dua after performing a good deed is a praiseworthy practice. However, it is best not to use specific wording unless it is directly from the Prophet’s teachings.

Hadith

It was narrated by an-Nasaa’i in as-Sunan al-Kubra (11067) and in ‘Amal al-Yawm wa’l-Laylah (308), and by at-Taaraani in ad-Du‘aa’ (1912) that ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:

“The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace be upon him) never sat in any gathering, or recited Qur’an, or offered any prayer, but he concluded that with certain words. I said: O Messenger of Allah, I see that you never sit in a gathering, or recite Qur’an, or offer any prayer, but you conclude it with these words. He said: ‘Yes. Whoever spoke good words, that will be like a seal on what he did of good, and whoever spoke ill, it will be an expiation for him.’”

Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in as-Saheehah (3164).

Queries

Is it a bid’ah (innovation) to recite a specific dua after the Quran?

Yes, reciting a specific Dua after completing the Quran, believing it to be part of the religion or a required practice, is considered a bid’ah (innovation). Bid’ah refers to introducing new practices into Islam that were not prescribed by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) or his companions.

Islam encourages following the Sunnah and avoiding innovations that may distort the purity of the faith. Therefore, it is important to avoid any rigid rituals or specific Duas for completing the Quran unless there is clear evidence from authentic sources.

What can a Muslim say after reciting the Quran?

After completing the Quran, a Muslim can raise their hands and make any dua from the heart. Here are some examples of what one can ask for:

• Forgiveness of sins

• Guidance to act upon the teachings of the Quran

• Protection from Hellfire and admission into Paradise

• Blessings for oneself, one’s family, and the Muslim community

• Knowledge and understanding of the Quran.

Is reciting Dua over food and distributing it after finishing the Quran permissible?

Reciting a specific dua over food and distributing it after finishing the Quran is not a practice from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Doing this with the intention of making it a special tradition after completing the Quran would be considered an innovation (bid’ah), which is not allowed in Islam.

It’s fine to make dua after finishing the Quran, but it should not be linked to specific actions like distributing food unless it’s something that was done by the Prophet (peace be upon him). You can make any dua you wish, asking Allah for forgiveness and guidance.
