Surah Al-Masad PDF in English Meaning and transliteration

| بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Bismillah ir-Rahman ir-Rahim | In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. |
| تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ وَتَبَّ | Tabbat yada abee lahabin wa tabb | May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he. |
| مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُ مَالُهُ وَمَا كَسَبَ | Ma aghna ‘anhu maluhu wa ma kasab | His wealth will not avail him or that which he gained. |
| سَيَصْلَىٰ نَارًا ذَاتَ لَهَبٍ | Sayasla naran dhata lahab | He will [enter to] burn in a Fire of [blazing] flame, |
| وَامْرَأَتُهُ حَمَّالَةَ الْحَطَبِ | Wamra’atuhu hammalat al-hatab | And his wife [as well] – the carrier of firewood, |
| فِي جِيدِهَا حَبْلٌ مِّن مَّسَدٍ | Fi jeediha hablun min masad | Around her neck is a rope of [twisted] fiber. |

Why Was Surah Al-Masad Revealed (Asbab al-Nuzul)?
Surah Al-Masad was revealed as a warning to Abu Lahab and his wife, who harmed the Prophet (PBUH) in several ways. They would leave rubbish and thorns in his path, throw stones, and even ordered their sons to divorce the Prophet’s daughters. Allah (SWT) responded to their actions with this Surah, threatening them with severe punishment in the Hereafter for their harm toward the Prophet.
