Hadith on Surah Al-Nas

According to Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) recited Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al-Nas before sleeping. He would blow over his hands after reciting these surahs and wipe his body for protection from evil.

Abu Sa’eed narrated:

“The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) would seek refuge from the jinn and the (evil) eye of humans, until Al-Mu’awwidhatain were revealed. So when they were revealed, he used them and left other than them.”

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2058)

When to Say Surah Al-Nas

Morning and Evening:

Recite it after Fajr and Maghrib prayers as part of daily adhkar for protection throughout the day and night.

Before Sleeping:

It is often recited before going to bed with Surah Al-Falaq and Surah Al-Ikhlas for protection from bad dreams and Shaytan’s whispers.

 Narrated by Aisha, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), she said:

 “Whenever the Prophet (PBUH) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq, and Surat An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face, and front of his body. He used to do that three times.”

For Healing and Protection:

Surah Al-Nas is recited during illness or difficult times when seeking protection from physical and spiritual harm.

During Anxiety or Distress:

It helps during anxiety or fear by asking Allah to protect from whispers of jinn and humans.

Narrated Aisha (RA):

Whenever Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) went to bed, he recited Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah Al-Nas, then blew on his palms and passed them over his body. When he fell ill, he asked Aisha to do this for him.
