Surah Al-Qadr (the 97th chapter of the Qur’an) is a five-verse Meccan surah. It commemorates the Night of Decree, when the first revelation of the Qur’an was sent down. Revealed in Ramadan, it highlights the power of this night and the immense blessings for those who recite it with faith and sincerity.

إِنَّآ أَنزَلۡنَٰهُ فِي لَيۡلَةِ ٱلۡقَدۡرِInna anzalnahu fee laylatil qadrWe have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power:
وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِWa ma adraka ma laylatul qadrAnd what will explain to thee what the night of power is?
لَيۡلَةُ ٱلۡقَدۡرِ خَيۡرٞ مِّنۡ أَلۡفِ شَهۡرٖLaylatul qadri khayrum min alfi shahrThe Night of Power is better than a thousand months.
تَنَزَّلُ ٱلۡمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ فِيهَا بِإِذۡنِ رَبِّهِم مِّن كُلِّ أَمۡرٖTanazzalul malaikatu warroohu feeha bi-idhni rabbihim min kulli amrTherein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah’s permission, on every errand:
سَلَٰمٌ هِيَ حَتَّىٰ مَطۡلَعِ ٱلۡفَجۡرِSalamun hiya hatta matla’il fajrPeace!…This until the rise of morn!

“The Prophet (ﷺ) said, ‘Whoever establishes prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.’”
