Revelation

Hadith

Ibn Umar narrated that the Messenger of Allah said:

“Whoever wishes to look at the Day of Resurrection, as if he is seeing it with this eye, let him recite: ‘When the sun Kuwwirat,’ ‘When the heaven is cleft asunder (Infatarat),’ and ‘When the heaven is split asunder.’”

(Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3333, Chapter 73)

Surah At-Takwir Tafseer (Detailed Explanation)

Verses 1-6: The Events of the End

1. “When the sun is wrapped up” – The sun, which gives light and life, will lose its light and become dark.

2. “And when the stars fall, losing their light” – The bright stars will fall and lose their brightness.

3. “And when the mountains are set in motion” – The strong mountains will be moved from their places, like dust blown away.

4. “And when the pregnant she-camels are neglected” – Even valuable things like pregnant camels (precious to Arabs) will be forgotten in the chaos.

5. “And when the wild animals are gathered” – Wild animals will lose their fear of each other and gather together, frightened by the destruction.

6. “And when the seas are set on fire” – The oceans will boil over and cause massive chaos.

Verses 7-14: Human Accountability

7. “And when the souls are paired” – Souls will be reunited with their deeds, with the good gathered together and the bad gathered with others like them.

8. “And when the girl who was buried alive is asked” – This verse of Surah At-Takwir refers to the cruel custom of burying baby girls alive, common in pre-Islamic Arabia. These innocent girls will be asked about their unjust treatment.

9. “For what sin she was killed” – This question highlights the injustice they suffered, showing that justice will be served on the Day of Judgment.

10. “And when the pages (of deeds) are laid open” – Everyone’s book of deeds will be opened for judgment.

11. “And when the sky is stripped away” – The sky will be torn apart, displaying Allah’s greatness.

12. “And when Hellfire is set ablaze” – Hellfire will be made visible, ready to punish those who disbelieved.

13. “And when Paradise is brought near” – Paradise will be brought closer for the believers as their reward.

14. “A soul will then know what it has brought forward” – On that day, every person will see what they did in life and will be shown the results of their deeds.

Verses 15-29: The Truth of Revelation and the Messenger

15-16. “So I swear by the planets that retreat” – Allah swears by the stars that move and disappear.

17-18. “And by the night as it closes in” – Allah swears by the night as it covers the day.

19-21. “Indeed, this is the word of a noble Messenger” – These verses confirm that the Quran is the word of Allah, brought by Angel Jibreel, who is strong and trustworthy.

22. “And your companion is not mad” – This defends the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) against false claims. Instead, he is a true guide.

23. “And he saw him on the clear horizon” – This verse of Surah At-Takwir refers to when the Prophet saw Angel Jibreel in his true form.

24. “And he (the Prophet) is not withholding knowledge of the unseen” – The Prophet delivers Allah’s message truthfully, without hiding anything.

25. “And it (the Quran) is not the word of a devil” – The Quran is not from evil spirits but is a divine revelation from Allah.

26-28. “So where are you going?” – Allah asks where the disbelievers are going by rejecting the truth. The Quran is a reminder for all, but only those who seek guidance will benefit.

29. “And you do not will unless Allah wills” – People have the free will to choose, but Allah’s will is above everything, and nothing happens without His permission.
